Golden Era The History of Group C & IMSA GTP (2 volume set) Feature

After the great sports prototype era of 1962 through to 1971, auto racing fell back on the use of GT machinery until, with the coming of the 80's , a new golden era commenced on both sides of the Atlantic. In Europe, the new Group C regulations set in motion a series which was ruled by fuel efficiency as well as speed. In America, the fuel efficiency factor was disregarded - brute power, speed and close racing being the objective in endurance racing. From 1981, IMSA GTP racing in America saw first Lola and then March rule the roost. The coming of the Porsche 962 in 1985 saw this car dominate the series until the arrival of Nissan and later Toyota. From 1982 in Europe, Porsche was instantly dominant, first of all with the 956 and later with the 962. There, Mercedes, in the guise of Peter Sauber's Company and Jaguar (with Tom Walkinshaw Racing) would beat Porsche until a new 3.5-liter "atmo" class took over in 1991.With the coming of the Wold recession in the early 90's, this form of manufacturer-based racing ground to a halt. Sports prototype racing in Europe died in 1992, to be followed in America at the end of 1993. Today, these cars and races are remembered with great fondness by most racing enthusiasts around the World. In this book (set of books actually) can be traced the events leading up to the Group C and IMSA GT formulas, together with a description of every race of both series and a complete description of every car that raced in the series. 300 black and white and color photos. 2 volume boxed set.

Travel America's "Pacific Highway" in a Classic 1969 Porsche 912

U.S. Route 99, unofficially the %u201CPacific Highway%u201D to many, no longer exists. It was replaced by Interstate 5 in the 1970s and has been completely decommissioned. But major sections of former U.S. Route 99 are still very much with us in California, Oregon and Washington.

Following his %u201CU.S. Route 395%u201D and %u201CU.S. Route 95%u201D, this is Mike Newlon%u2019s third book about U.S. highway adventures in his classic 1969 Porsche 912.

Ride with Mike, perhaps again, on this trip as he drives the full surviving length of historic former U.S. Route 99, northbound from Mexico to Canada, in April of 2008.

Porsche Sports Racers Ultimate Portfolio 1952-1968

Porsche Sports Racers Ultimate Portfolio 1952-1968 Review

Porsche Sports Racers Ultimate Portfolio 1952-1968 Feature

The Porsche type 550 appeared in 1953. Designed for competition purposes, it featured a complex flat four that produced 110 bhp from just 1.5 litres. Quite a feat for 1953 - more than half a century ago! Not only was it light, it was very quick and soon became a class winner in major long distance races. It also became quite a collector's piece. A new era was ushered in with the release of the stunning Type 904 that was shown to the media in 1963 and entered competition the following year. It had a fibreglass body of exquisite beauty, and a totally new chassis with coil spring suspension. It was to have a long and successful racing career and spawned more great racing Porsches over the next decade beginning with the fabulous Carrera 6, the first Porsche to be powered by a flat six engine. Thankfully, many of the small numbers of these cars that were built have survived and are often seen in classic events around the world. They still look and sound great.

365 Cars You Must Drive

365 Cars You Must Drive Review

365 Cars You Must Drive Feature

What began as a solution for transportation has evolved into a desire for speed, luxury, personal expression, and freedom. For many, the thrill of the drive has eclipsed the pure utility of the automobile. And the pursuit of that thrill is the driving force behind 365 Cars You Must Drive. From the Ford Model T to the Porsche Carrera GT, there are certain cars that any self-respecting auto enthusiast just has to know—and experience from the driver’s seat.

With homage to the greatest cars and good-natured mockery of the strangest, authors Matt Stone and John Matras detail which cars to drive and why, how to get behind the wheel, where to drive them, and who to invite along for the ride. Each entry contains a colorful spec box noting the car's claim to fame, a Did You Know? factoid, the author's clever suggestions for "The Perfect Passenger" and the "Soundtrack" coming out of the speakers, Behind the Wheel notes, and a "Perfect Drive" for the marque or model covered. Engine details, production information, the price when it debuted and the collectible price now - all of it adds up to at-a-glance fun reading to go with informative essays on each car, archival and full-color photos, and more.
